Cuisine
Venezuela
Venezuelan cooking is built on corn, which becomes arepas, empanadas and the Christmas hallacas, alongside black beans, rice and plantains. It draws on Indigenous, Spanish and African traditions, and later on Italian and Portuguese immigrants too. Sweet-and-savoury pairings, such as fried ripe plantain next to meat, are completely ordinary here.
