Poland

Polish cooking grew out of grain, potatoes, cabbage, wild mushrooms and pork, and its signature is the sour tang of pickles and fermented starters. Gentry, peasant, Jewish, Lithuanian and German influences have mingled here for centuries. The most important meals are Christmas Eve supper, the Easter breakfast and the Sunday dinner, which always starts with soup.
