Cuisine
Denmark
Danish cooking grew out of farming and the sea: pork, potatoes, cabbage, herring and dark rye bread, rugbrød, have been staples for generations. Danes value cosy, shared meals, eat open sandwiches called smørrebrød at lunchtime and have pastries known abroad simply as Danish with their coffee. Copenhagen has also become one of the world centres of New Nordic cooking.
